John Fils-Aime, Senior Pastor
John Fils-Aime is a first generation Haitian American who grew up in inner-city Miami. As a young boy, John dreamed of one day becoming a professional basketball player. It was apparent very early to everyone in his neighborhood that John had neither the talent nor the ability to play basketball well, everyone except John. He continued to hold onto his childhood dreams well into his first few years in college. John’s dreams were finally dashed, however, during his time at Florida International University and he began focusing on other things.
In the midst of preparing for law school God called John into full time ministry. After graduating with a degree in Political Science from FIU, John began pursuing a career in full time ministry. He went on to earn a BA in Biblical Studies from Trinity International University before earning a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. John also holds a Masters of Theology degree in Old Testament from Regent College in Vancouver BC.
John has been active in ministry for the past twelve years and he has served in churches from Miami to Vancouver exercising his preaching and teaching gifts. He helped form a Baptist Student Ministry group on the campus of Barry University, the largest Catholic college/university in Florida and he was instrumental in launching a multi-cultural church in inner city Fort Worth. John has also preached in churches and lectures in colleges throughout North America.
John holds a deep and abiding passion for global disciple making. He believes that Jesus uniquely created the church to impact the world with the message of the Gospel. His philosophy of ministry is people centered and scripturally rooted in 2 Corinthians 1:24, “Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand.” John believes that churches thrive when pastor and people work together for the glory of God and for the advancement of the Gospel.
John married his lovely bride, Kristy, in 2008. They live in Harlem with their dog, Harlem.
